About Rough Old Wife Cider

At Hawkins Rough Orchard ,with Defra help ,we helped restore the orchard to full glory and are a full supporter of the CAMRA real cider and perry campaign to ensure we preserve and more importantly bring our Kent cider to a new generation.

Background

This is 'Real cider', hand pressed traditional Kent cider with no chemicals or preservatives from growth to glass. Barrel fermented and aged.

Our cider making is a family & friends love affair and we welcome anyone who would like to join in the fun of the event either apple picking, loading, barrelling or pressing. We have many people interested in making a holiday of the occasion so several bed & breakfast and facilities are available this includes Flint Cottage at Hawkins Rough Orchard Cork Farm.

Product Description

Our cider is completely un-pasteurised, maturing for nearly 1 year in oak whisky casks before being freshly decanted into hygienic airtight bag-in-box. This provides you with a natural refreshing drink with no loss of essential ingredients. We have a predominant mixture of Bramley's with Worcester, Cox and Crispin to add additional sweetness if required.
Our barrels come from the famous Bruichladdich Distillery on the coast of Islay and allow the cider to breathe naturally through the peaty wood. The natural yeasts in the apples start the fermentation and after several months we seal the barrels and allow the cider to develop and mature.
